Types Of Churches In Australia

Christianity started to be present in Australia in New South Wales in 1788 with the establishment of a British colony. Christianity remains Australia's greater faith. However, the decreasing number of Christians in the national census, which decreased from 96.1 per cent at the time of the Australian Federation in the 1901 census, to 52.1 per cent in the 2016 census, in recent decades has raised the proportion of the population are classified as Christian.
The 2016 census showed 22.6% of the population for Catholics, 13.3% for Anglicans and 3.7% for the uniting Church. The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia has risen in migration since the war and there is a strong and rising Pentecostal group, such as Sydney's Hillsong Church.

Now it is the Catholic Church, by organizations, including the Catholic Social Services Australia and the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, which is second only to the government in its social services. The same fields, including disasterassistance, elderly care, family support programmes and homeless help, are part of the Anglican Church's Anglicare network.
